Protecting and sharing Bedford's rich history since 1893

I really enjoyed Don Corey’s article about the history of Hanscom AFB. It contained much that I didn’t know. I wonder if the P-40s were frequently spotted across the farmlands during their training. My memories of Hanscom goes back to the 1960s when C-130 Transports would frequently fly into the base. It was also exciting when the Thunderbirds performed. It must be hard to measure the impact of the base on the town. I know our BHS football team benefited from students commuting from Hanscom. Many of my neighbors were active-duty families from all over the country, residing off base. It also added diversity to the town since the military was integrated and African-American military families fit comfortably into our neighborhoods.
